Georgia Police Officer Perform CPR to Help Save Boy's Life
A Georgia police officer is being praised for helping save an 18-month-old boy's life after he suffered a medical emergency and stopped breathing.
The incident occurred Aug. 17 in Loganville when Gwinnett County Police Officer Ralph Mondesir was approached by an individual while the officer was completing paperwork in his cruiser, according to a department social media post. The person had told him that a toddler was choking and unresponsive, and Mondesir quickly to the scene.
The officer immediately began performing CPR compressions while an off-duty nurse performed rescue breaths. The boy's pulse returned, and he began breathing again before being taken to the hospital.
“The first and foremost (thought) was just make sure that little one was able to make it,” Mondesir told WAGA-TV. "I was nervous, at first, he wouldn’t have made it."
Mondesir had previously received a lifesaving award for applying a tourniquet to a hit-and-run victim in 2022.
