Saving American Hearts, INC. is a Colorado Springs based nonprofit training center specializing in Advanced and Pediatric Advanced Life Support and emergency medical courses in alignment with the American Heart Association (AHA) and allied professional organizations.

 

Overview

 

Saving American Hearts is an Authorized American Heart Association Training Site, a NAEMT National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians Training Center and a NREMT National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Training Center. They are also an Authorized Provider of the CDPHE Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment for their EMT IV and Medication Course.

 

  • Founder and Leadership: Led by President and CEO Catherine Brinkley, an RN with decades of medical and teaching experience.
  • Location: 1301 S. 8th Street, Suite 116, Colorado Springs, CO 80905.
  • Mission: Provides certified life-support, trauma, and emergency medical training to healthcare providers, first responders, and the community.

 

Courses Offered

 

  • AHA Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), ACLS EP Advanced Cardiac Life Support for Experienced Providers and HeartSaver First Aid/CPR/AED.
  • Specialized Medical Training: EMT IV and medication course Approved by the CDPHE - Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) via NAEMT - National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians, and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) via the American Academy of Pediatrics.
  • Instructor Courses: AHA instructor certifications for BLS, ACLS, PALS, and HeartSaver as well as PHTLS Instructor Courses.

 

Saving American Hearts started out as an LLC in Dallas, Texas in 2010. We taught classes at Major's Bookstore and Ethicus Hospital.  We moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 2015 and have been here for the past 11 years with the promise of becoming a Training Center. 

 

This coming April 2027 we will be celebrating our 17th year in business!

12-Lead EKG Interpretation Course

Course Description:

 

This is not a 12-Lead Certification 

 

12 hours of CME!

This is a 12 hour course with 4 hours of precourse work and eight hours of hands-on, instructor-led in-person classroom time. It is designed to provide healthcare professionals with a comprehensive understanding of 12-lead electrocardiogram (EKG/ECG) interpretation. Through classroom instruction, interactive discussions, and real-world case studies, students will gain the knowledge and skills needed to accurately interpret 12-lead EKGs in clinical settings.

Whether you're new to cardiac monitoring or seeking a refresher to strengthen your interpretation skills, this course will build your confidence in recognizing normal and abnormal cardiac rhythms, ischemia, infarction patterns, axis deviations, and more.

What the class covers:

         

  • Basics of the Heart and Electrical Conduction
  • Cardiac Anatomy & physiology
  • How the heart's electrical signals are generated and detected
  • EKG fundamentals 
  • Calculating heart rate, rhythm, axis and intervals
  • Electrode placement and lead configuration for both 3 and 12 Leads
  • Importance of correct placement for proper readings
  • Systematic approach to EKG interpretation
  • Identifying arrhythmias, conduction abnormalities, ischemia, infarction, and hypertrophy
  • Recognizing signs of myocardial infarction and ischemia
  • Recognizing STEMI (ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction) patterns
  • How to respond to abnormal EKGs and what to do in emergency situations
  • Clinical correlation and decision-making
