Nurse credited with saving neighbor’s life by performing CPR, getting him to breathe again
An Alabama man is recovering in the hospital after his wife says their neighbor saved his life.
Diann Hunt said it was a normal night until her husband, Robert, told her he was not feeling well.
“When I came in, he put his head back up. I told him to put his head up. And when he did, his lips were purple,” she said.
Diann Hunt did not waste any time. She had her son come in to watch Robert while she grabbed her phone to call 911. By then, he was already on the ground.
Though 911 operators were telling Diann Hunt to stay with her husband until an ambulance arrived, she had her son stay with him and ran next door to get help.
Kathy Hudson, a nurse at Huntsville Hospital, is the couple’s next-door neighbor. When she saw Diann Hunt shaken up, she knew she had to jump into action.
Hudson said when she got there, Robert wasn’t breathing, and she couldn’t find a pulse. That’s when she began performing CPR.
“I was like, this is what we have to do. And we’re going to do it,” Hudson said. “And all of a sudden, he started moving a little bit. And I felt a pulse, and he was starting to breathe on his own.”
Shortly after, the ambulance arrived to take Robert to this hospital.
“She saved his life. I’m so thankful for her. And he’s on his way to recovery, and that’s the best thing,” Diann Hunt said.
