Rochester students get hands-on CPR training with new kits

The American Heart Association was at Edison Career and Technology High School in Rochester Friday to teach students how to perform CPR.

It’s part of a partnership with Rochester Regional Health.

Representatives presented training kits to the students during a health fair and demonstrated proper CPR techniques.

They said they can teach students how to save lives within the span of just a single class period.

“The mission of the American Heart Association is creating a nation of life savers,” Rochester Regional Health Community Engagement and Social Impact Vice President Dr. Lekeyah Wilson said. “Being able to give our students, our children, our future, the tools to be able to provide that service wherever they may be is just amazing.”

According to the American Heart Association, nearly three quarters of all cardiac arrests happening outside the hospital occur in homes — making training like this critical.
