Performing CPR through holiday songs
Performing CPR through holiday songs
According to the American Heart Association, heart attacks happen most frequently on Christmas Day.
If performed immediately, CPR can double or triple a person’s odds of survival.
Experts with the American Heart Association say anytime someone collapses, and you cannot wake them, immediately call 911. Dispatchers can walk you through the steps of administering CPR.
Place the heel of one hand in the center of the chest at the nipple line. Place the other hand on top and interlock your fingers, start pushing hard at a rate between 100 and 120 beats per minute.
Pushing between 100 and 120 beats per minute is important, says Lurie Children’s Hospital Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Jaclyn Reider.
An easy way to remember how fast you should be pushing, you can use the following holiday songs:
- “Jingle Bell Rock” by Bobby Helms (120 bpm)
- “Last Christmas” by Wham! (108 bpm)
- “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer” by Elmo and Patsy (110 bpm)
- “Where are you Christmas?” by Faith Hill (109 bpm)
- “Winter Wonderland” by Ray Charles (110 bpm)
