The mission of PHTLS is to promote excellence in trauma patient management by all providers involved in the delivery of prehospital care through global education. PHTLS is developed by NAEMT in cooperation with the American College of Surgeons' Committee on Trauma. The Committee provides the medical direction and content oversight for the PHTLS program. PHTLS Prehospital Trauma Life Support courses improve the quality of trauma care in your area and decrease mortality. The program is based on a prehospital trauma care philosophy, stressing the treatment of the multi-system trauma patient as a unique entity with specific needs. This may require an approach to the trauma patient that varies from traditional treatment modalities. PHTLS promotes critical thinking as the foundation for providing quality care. It is based on the belief that, given a good fund of knowledge and key principles, EMS practitioners are capable of making reasoned decisions regarding patient care. The PHTLS course is continuously updated and revised to keep up with the advances in the field, ATLS Advanced Trauma Life Support Guidelines and feedback from PHTLS Prehospital Trauma Life Support participants. Although PHTLS originated in the United States, it has evolved and now serves as an international education program available to EMS providers in countries around the world. PHTLS Pre Hospital Trauma Life Support for First Responders course is a one-day continuing education course that teaches the principles of Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) to non-EMS practitioners, including first responders, police officers, firefighters, rescue personnel and safety officers. It helps them prepare to care for trauma patients while serving as part of a transport team or awaiting a transport provider. The course serves up core PHTLS content to those who have had EMT or advanced prehospital training. The lectures and practical stations are designed for the type of care first responders can render while awaiting patient transport or when assisting paramedics and EMTs at a trauma scene. The following PHTLS courses are offered to address the needs of providers and instructors: Provider Course: 16 hour course for emergency medical responders, EMTs, Paramedics, nurses, physician assistants and physicians. This course is offered at Basic, Advanced or Combined levels, and Military Provider courses are also available. The provider course may be offered in one of two formats: the traditional onsite face-to-face format with lectures and skill stations; or a hybrid format, where a portion of the course is taken online in an interactive, web-based format, followed by a one day face-to-face for skill station instructions and evaluations. Refresher Course: 8 hour course for individuals who have successfully completed the respective PHTLS provider course within the past four years. This course is offered at Basic, Advanced or Combined levels, and Military refresher courses are also available. Current PHTLS provider certificate or wallet card required. Instructor Update: 4 hour course for current PHTLS instructors, coordinators or affiliates to be updated on all aspects of new edition text materials. This course is required with each new edition to maintain current instructor status. PHTLS for First Responders: 8 hour course for emergency medical responders, police officers, firefighters, rescue personnel and safety officers to prepare for rendering care to trauma patients until EMS personnel arrive. http://www.savingamericanhearts.com Catherine Brinkley (719) 551-1222 6165 Lehman Drive Suite 202 Colorado Springs, Colorado 80918 admin@savingamericanhearts.com
