WKU CPR Training Center expands, now offering courses at WKU South Campus
Western Kentucky University's (WKU) CPR Training Center, an affiliate of the American Heart Association, is excited to announce an expansion of its CPR and first aid course at its new location on WKU’s South Campus (2355 Nashville Rd, Bowling Green, KY). The new space and new services provide the community with vital life-saving skills.
The new South Campus location will allow the WKU CPR Training Center to accommodate participants better and expand the number of available courses. At its new space, the program offers a variety of CPR and first aid courses for community members and advanced medical providers. These courses include:
- Stop the Bleed: This is for anyone in the community who wants to learn how to control bleeding in severely injured persons.
- Heartsaver First Aid, CPR & AED: For anyone in the community who wants to learn how to perform CPR, first aid, and other lifesaving skills.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) for Healthcare Providers: Designed for healthcare professionals who need to know how to perform CPR and other cardiovascular life support skills.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS): designed for advanced providers to enhance their skills in treating adult victims of cardiac arrest or other cardiopulmonary emergencies.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS): Designed for advanced providers to learn how to effectively recognize and intervene in pediatric patients with respiratory emergencies, shock, and cardiopulmonary arrest.
- Advanced Stroke Life Support (ASLS): This course teaches healthcare professionals how to identify, evaluate, and manage patients with stroke. This new program was designed by the AHA in partnership with The University of Miami’s Gordon Canter for Simulation and Innovation in Medical Education.
CPR Training Center Coordinator, Gerita Cook (pictured) says, “Winston Churchill once said: ‘We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.’ Teaching life-saving measures to others gives us another opportunity to make a life of possibilities.”
"We are excited to expand our services and bring even more life-saving training opportunities to the community," said Catherine Malin, Center Director of South-Central KY AHEC. "With our new location at South Campus, we can offer more flexibility, larger class sizes, and enhanced accessibility to meet the need for more community CPR and emergency response training."
