I never thought I would have to use CPR and especially on my own family
I had gone to my sister's funeral in October with my family in Arizona. After the funeral we had stayed in a hotel with a pool and decided to spend time together grieving. Nearing the end of the day in the pool I had been in the jacuzzi, gotten out and as I was walking past the pool I noticed my 7 year old cousin flipped chest up head back in the water. I screamed out his name with no response. I jumped in immediately, pulled him out and started chest compressions. At this point his mother ran over and other people surrounding the pool, one woman called emergency services. After three rounds of 30 compressions he began spitting up water and throwing up. His face was so blue and lifeless but now he was crying and holding his mother tightly. I reassured him that everything will be okay and that he will need to see a doctor as soon as possible.
I never thought I would have to use CPR and especially on my own family but I am so grateful that I was able to be that person and give him a second chance. Everyone should take this course and understand BLS because anyone could collapse, it can happen at any time in any place. And it does not discriminate. My cousin is doing well and always tells me "Sammy. Thank you so much for saving my life."
