Huber Heights YMCA hosts CPR training kiosk for CPR and AED Awareness Week

YMCA at the Heights is hosting the Mobile Hands-Only Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Training Kiosk this summer.

The YMCA received the kiosk on Tuesday, June 4 and is the fifth location to host it.

The kiosks’ training is fast, taking only five minutes to teach hands-only CPR. The kiosk plays a video that explains the basics of hands-only CPR. It has a mannequin torso to practice on. Then the kiosk gives a 30-second test.

“At the YMCA at the Heights, we are dedicated to enriching the well-being and physical health of those we serve and are excited to provide our community with the opportunity to learn Hands-Only CPR,” said Chris Lindeman, executive director of the YMCA at the Heights. “Hosting the Mobile Kiosk at the YMCA allows the American Heart Association to meet our community where they are and provide them with the confidence they need to practice this lifesaving skill.”

According to the American Heart Association, hands-only CPR is just as effective as conventional mouth-to-mouth CPR, with the added benefit of being potentially easier to administer. CPR can double a person’s chance of survival after cardiac arrest.

“CPR is a life-saving skill that anyone can do. We’re proud to be able to bring this training opportunity to places throughout the Greater Dayton region to train as many people as possible,” said Alina Joseph, executive director of the Heart & Vascular service line at Kettering Health. “We’re excited to bring this initiative somewhere that will reach so many families.”
