Henderson Fire to host first free lifesaver class of the year
The first six minutes are crucial in any medical emergency, and the Henderson Fire Department wants to ensure that everywhere is prepared for the unexpected.
Henderson Fire will host its free lifesaver training class on Saturday, January 14.
The class is meant for those ages 12 and older and will provide residents with skills to help save a life until medical personnel arrives.
Training areas include:
- Hands-Only CPR: The American Heart Association now recommends hands-only CPR using only chest compressions for adults experiencing cardiac arrest. Hands-only CPR does not require a certification to learn or perform.
- Automated External Defibrillator (AED): Quickly shocking the heart with an AED can save a person’s life during cardiac arrest. As public access AEDs become more available within the Henderson community, it is important to become familiar with how and when to use an AED.
- Emergency Bleeding Control: A person with significant bleeding can die within five minutes. It is vital to stop blood loss quickly before arrival of emergency responders. Class includes training on emergency bleeding control and how to use a tourniquet.
Residents are also encouraged to download the PulsePoint App, which allows anyone to connect with the Henderson Fire Department and follow active emergency calls while receiving important news and information.
The class will cover the use of the app, which is free to download on any Apple and Android device.
