First responders, daughter save Tewksbury man’s life after he stopped breathing

After a 64-year-old Tewksbury man was found unresponsive and not breathing in a home in December, his daughter and several first responders worked together to save his life.

The incident happened in Tewksbury on Dec. 23, 2024, around 2:55 p.m., the Tewksbury Police Department reported. The department did not specify where the incident occurred.

The man’s daughter called 911 and the dispatcher gave her instructions over the phone on how to give CPR to her father as first responders were coming to the home, police said.

When an officer went to the home, the daughter was performing CPR on her father, police said. The officer then took over the efforts to give CPR to the man.

After an off-duty firefighter near the area saw the officer rush into the home, they cleared the area around the officer and the man, police said. They then took over the CPR efforts from the officer.

A short time later, Tewksbury firefighters went to the scene, took over the CPR efforts and gave him a shock from a defibrillator, police said.

As more first responders came to the scene to take over the care of the man, he regained a pulse and started to breathe again, police said.

He was then taken to Lowell General Hospital, police said. The man’s family reached out to first responders to report that he is in good health and is recovering.
