Acadian Ambulance supervisor to teach emergency training class in St. Gabriel
A life-threatening situation can strike at any moment. Families can learn vital skills to know how to act in emergencies after calling 911, but before help arrives.
All the training will happen in one class at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Gabriel Community Center on Saturday, July 19. The event is free and open to the public.
Justin Alleman, the Special Operations Supervisor at Acadian Ambulance Service, will help make the event happen.
“We are going to learn about what to do before we get there. It’s going to be hands-only CPR, stopping the bleed, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and some law enforcement information,” says Alleman.
The class will cover important safety tips for using various tools. You’ll learn how to use a fire extinguisher. You’ll also find out which type to buy, the size differences, and how to change smoke detector batteries.
“The CPR mannequin we are going to practice CPR, doing it one and a half to two inches deep and about 100 to 120 times a minute. This other one here simulates a wound, and we will be doing tourniquet training on it,” said Alleman.
