What is Basic Life Support Training?

Basic Life Support Training is a life saving class that teaches how to check to see if someone is breathing, how to check for a pulse and how to perform CPR or Cardiopulmonary resuscitation. This will help them get blood and oxygen supply until more advanced providers can arrive on the scene. This class also teaches how to use an AED or automated external defibrillator and use a bag mask device to give the person breaths.

The American Heart Association's Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers or BLS course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED.

The class teaches:

  • High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants
  • The AHA Chain of Survival, specifically the BLS components
  • Important early use of an AED
  • Effective ventilations using a barrier device
  • Importance of teams in multirescuer resuscitation and performance as an effective team member during multirescuer CPR
  • Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants

You will learn how to help an adult, infant or child who is choking, both responsive and unresponsive.

This class is typically taught to medical providers such as doctors, nurses, emergency personnel and those who work in a hospital or medical setting.

The Basic Life Support Initial classroom course is 5 hours and our classes are from 10 AM to 3 PM with a total cost of $50.

We do also teach a Basic Life Support Renewal course from 10 AM to 1 PM with a total cost of $50. We usually teach these classes on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, but not every time. We teach lots of classes so the best way to see what we are offering is to go to our calendar at: https://www.keepandshare.com/calendar/show.php?i=2091851&vw=month&ign=y

You can also take a portion of the class online, and part of the class in person by taking a Blended Learning course.

Once you complete the online course, you'll need to use the course connector to locate a BLS Skills Session near you in order to complete your certification and obtain an American Heart Association Basic Life Support Provider Card. The online course is $32.50 and the in person testing portion is $50.
