NYPD cop saves life of unconscious 2-year-old boy in Brooklyn

An NYPD cop saved the life of an unconscious 2-year-old boy in Brooklyn late last month, dramatic bodycam footage shows.

Officer DeLeon had just left the 78th Precinct to attend a youth event at the 67th Precinct around 12:45 p.m. Aug. 27 when a call came in of a 2-year-old child who was unresponsive and not breathing outside the Atlantic Terminal, authorities said.

Once DeLeon heard the child’s age, he detoured from his assignment and responded to Atlantic and Flatbush avenues, cops said.

The bodycam footage begins with someone taking the limp toddler — who had suffered an unknown medical episode — out of a parked car and handing him to DeLeon on the sidewalk.

The officer held the child in his arms and performed CPR as a woman could be heard crying in distress.

“Is he going to be OK?” asked a child standing nearby.

Within a few seconds, the toddler started to cough and cry.

“He’s breathing, right?” the woman asked.

“He’s crying, so he’s breathing,” the cop reassured her.

The child was taken by EMS to an area hospital in stable condition.

In a Monday tweet, police praised DeLeon for jumping into action

According to the mother, the baby suffered from an unknown medical episode while they were in a parked car.

“No day on patrol is ever routine,” the tweet said. “Officer DeLeon, from the @NYPD78Pct, recently responded to a call for an unconscious and unresponsive 2-year-old boy in Brooklyn. Relying on his training, he quickly administered CPR, saving the child’s life.”

Cops did not immediately provide DeLeon’s first name.
