Michelin Becomes Dothan’s 100th HeartSafe Designation

Michelin’s Dothan manufacturing plant has become the city’s 100th HeartSafe designation, marking a milestone for a community program focused on preparing people to respond during cardiac emergencies.

According to the Southeast Health Foundation, the milestone was announced Thursday at the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce.

“We are proud to recognize Michelin and this milestone,” said Amy Bunting, director of the Foundation. “This 100th designation is more than just a number, it represents the commitment of businesses, schools and churches to prevent Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) in Dothan.”

The HeartSafe program includes cardiac education and training supported by the Dothan Fire Department, Southeast Alabama Emergency Services, the city of Dothan and the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce.

According to the Foundation, more than 8,000 residents have completed CPR and AED training through the initiative. Training has also expanded to include Narcan administration for drug overdoses and Stop the Bleed training for traumatic injuries.

The HeartSafe initiative began in Dothan in 2021, with Four-Star Freightliners becoming the first designation.

In 2024, Gov. Kay Ivey declared Dothan Alabama’s first HeartSafe City after the initiative grew to more than 70 designated businesses, churches and organizations. At that point, more than 7,000 residents had received CPR and AED training.

The Foundation said the program continues to grow.

“We want to thank everyone for their support in this initiative, and we look forward to continuing to grow it in the years to come.”
