Three lifeguards at Caldwell Memorial Pool rescued two children Friday afternoon in what city officials are calling a heroic display of quick thinking and life-saving skills.

According to Caldwell officials, the emergency began at 3:28 p.m. when an on-duty lifeguard spotted two children in distress in the water. The lifeguard immediately signaled for help, prompting two additional lifeguards to respond.

The three lifeguards pulled both children from the water and began CPR before emergency responders arrived on the scene. Caldwell Police officers reached the pool within 90 seconds of being dispatched and found the lifeguards had already addressed the emergency.

Caldwell Fire Department personnel and Canyon County Paramedics arrived shortly after police and took over medical care of the children, who were transported to a local hospital alive.

"The City of Caldwell commends these lifeguards for their life-saving efforts and their unwavering commitment to public safety," the city stated in a press release.

Caldwell Memorial Pool will remain closed Saturday to allow pool staff time to recover from the emergency, according to the city.
