Intermountain Health’s Heart Health Fair promotes heart care awareness

To kick off National Heart Month, Intermountain Health St. Mary’s Regional Hospital will host a Heart Health Fair on Friday, Feb. 6.

The educational event, taking place in the hospital’s lobby from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., will provide community members with the resources they need to help improve heart health, including how to perform hands-only CPR.

According to Katie Klima, RN, chest pain coordinator at St. Mary’s, performing CPR on an individual who has suffered a cardiac event increases their chances of survival by 85 to 90%.

“With risk factor modification and educating the community on heart attack care and CPR, we can come together, and we can take actionable measures to help people save lives,” said Klima. “The best thing to do when someone suffers from a cardiac event is to start CPR, call for help and have someone go find an AED nearby.”

The fair will also cover topics such as smoking cessation, symptoms of a heart attack, blood pressure screening, stress reduction and nutrition, with medical experts available to answer questions.
