India: Govt Official Collapses in State Assembly, Dies Despite CPR Attempts

A Telangana Cabinet minister performed emergency CPR on a government official who collapsed inside the state Assembly premises in Hyderabad on Tuesday,September 8, in a dramatic scene captured on video by bystanders.

The official, identified as Krishna Mohan Raju, 50, was working as personal secretary to senior IAS officer Navin Mittal and held the position of section officer in the energy department. He collapsed in a corridor of the Assembly building during an ongoing legislative session, according to Press Trust of India.

Minister steps in during emergency According to a video that circulated onine, State Animal Husbandry and Sports Minister Vakiti Srihari was present at the scene when Raju fell and immediately began administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation in an attempt to keep him alive. The footage showed the minister kneeling over Raju on a red carpet, performing chest compressions while onlookers, event staff, and other bystanders gathered around them. Srihari continued his efforts until a doctor on duty at the Assembly arrived and took over the resuscitation procedure. 

Official dies on way to hospital Despite the intervention, Raju could not be revived. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead before reaching medical care. Hindustan Times indicated he is suspected to have suffered a cardiac arrest. CPR is an emergency procedure used when a person's heart stops beating or they stop breathing. It is designed to maintain blood flow and oxygen to the brain and vital organs until normal heart function can be restored or advanced medical help arrives.

Mewanwhile, in Kenya, Suba North MP aspirant Silas Jakakimba announced the death of Mfangano businessman, Joe Orifah. Jakakimba revealed that Joe died hours after there concersation, during which he supported his parliamentary bid and allocated him a room inside hiss Mbita hotel for campaign meetings. He eulogised him as mobiliser and development-oriented man who connected the community to opportunities.
