Inaugural ‘Kern County Heart Ball’ aims to put CPR kits in Kern schools
Surviving a heart attack depends entirely on receiving immediate help from someone close by. The American Heart Association will be hosting the inaugural “Kern County Heart Ball” to improve the rate of life-saving CPR.

Chairperson for the “Kern County Heart Ball,” Jason Wells, joined 17 News at Noon to speak about the importance of CPR training and the event, taking place May 18.

Proceeds from the fundraising event will go towards purchasing CPR kits for students in Kern. Every kit a school can potentially get could train hundreds of kids, allowing them to go from bystanders to lifesavers.

“350,000 heart attacks happen every single year and if you’re outside of a hospital when that happens, there is 90% chance you won’t make it. Unless you have someone there to do life saving CPR right away,” Wells said during his interview.
