At the end of the poles is a black metal circle like this. There are 4 poles stuck into the larger end of the hole and when you move the pole, the pole tilts and sort of snaps into the hole.  In the center of this picture is a small bolt.  Unscrew the bolt, hold this circle and push the circle toward the floor. The circle will slide down the poles and you can pull them out of the circle.  Took me at least 3 hours, took my nephew less than 5 miutes to figure this out!
