Home Builders Association of the UP provides winter training for members
Upper Peninsula homebuilders can receive updated training this winter thanks to educational opportunities provided through the Home Builders Association of the U.P. (HBA).
Nearly a dozen association members were up early Friday morning for CPR training.
The CEO of HBA U.P., Sarah Foster, says that the training is required by the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA). Foster adds that it is vital to offer the training to members for less than $100.
“This is a high priority for the Home Builders Association. One of our goals is you always want a builder that is licensed and insured. But also that is that has kept up to date on their education and training and that’s what we strive to do,” Foster said.
Foster says that while training on Friday is focused on first aid, many classes focus on various trades of home building.
“But this is just the first of many education opportunities we have for our members. So we’re providing estimating, kitchen and bath, time management, advanced building and climate zones, then CAPS 1,2 and 3 as well,” Foster said.
The president of Dan Perkins Construction, Dan Perkins, says he encourages other members to look into the courses.
“If you’re developing a professional culture in your company, it shows your employees that you care about them and about their abilities. That you want them to be valuable members in their community and be able to serve them in their safety,” Perkins said.
The next classes for the HBA are scheduled for Feb. 13 and are focused on estimating and kitchen and bath trends. The following CPR training will be on Feb. 18.
