A group is working to ensure people know how to respond if a young child needs CPR.
In just one year alone, over 23,000 children suffer from an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.
The National Center for Injury Prevention and Control says unintentional choking and suffocation are leading causes of death for infants. Both are terrifying scenarios, but the Tempur Sealy Foundation wants to help prevent them.
The foundation grants funds to the American Heart Association to work with UK Hospital to give expecting parents and caregivers lifesaving tools.
“This gift today of $25,000 will go toward a purchase of 500 infant CPR anytime training kits,” said Scott Vollet, executive VP of Tempur Sealy.
We’re told the kits include an infant mannequin, instructional videos, and other resources to provide parents and caregivers with hands-on practice and equip them with the lifesaving skills they’ll need.
“This gift will give parents and caregivers not just a lifesaving resource, but really a much-needed peace of mind,” said Dr. Scottie B. Day, Kentucky Children’s Hospital.
