Better Call Saul's Bob Odenkirk talks about his heart attack on set: 'If they didn't do that CPR, I’d have been dead in a few minutes'

Bob Odenkirk says he could have died after suffering a heart attack while filming the final season of Better Call Saul last year.

The US actor plays corrupt lawyer Jimmy McGill, who later adopts the pseudonym Saul Goodman, in the Breaking Bad prequel.

In an interview with the Radio Times, Odenkirk said the heart attack caused him to stop breathing.

“I went down on one knee, and then I went all the way down. I guess I said, ‘I don’t feel very good,’” Odenkirk said.

Better Call Saul cast mates Rhea Seehorn and Patrick Fabian, who play Kim Wexler and Howard Hamlin, grabbed Oberkirk’s head and yelled at him to “stay on Earth.”

He had been headed to an exercise bike he used in-between takes on-set when he stopped to watch a sports game, before ultimately collapsing.

Trained crew administered CPR while the show’s health official ran to her car to retrieve a defibrillator, later giving the actor three shots.

“I wasn't breathing. I mean, if nobody had been there, if they didn’t do that CPR, I’d have been dead in a few minutes,” Odenkirk says.

The actor took to Twitter a few days after the incident to reassure fans he was doing okay.

“I had a small heart attack,” he explained. “But I’m going to be ok thanks to Rosa Estrada and the doctors who knew how to fix the blockage without surgery.”

The final episode of Better Call Saul will air next Tuesday at 7pm on Neon.
