The student must complete the Precourse Self-Assessment and achieve a score of at least 70% before taking the ACLS Course. The student must print their successful completion certificate and bring it with them to class. The ACLS Precourse Work involves a student reviewing course content through online videos before entering the classroom. The video lessons cover multiple medical subjects and each lesson includes questions to engage the student. This precourse work allows more classroom time for hands-on skills training and leads to the student being better prepared to participate as soon as they enter the classroom.

Welcome to the ACLS Precourse Self-Assessment and Precourse Work

Things to know before taking this course:

  • All students must complete the Precourse Self-Assessment and achieve a score of at least 70% before taking the ACLS Course.
  • Once a student has passed the Precourse Self-Assessment, they will gain access to the Precourse Work video lessons.
  • All video lessons must be reviewed before entering the classroom.
  • Students must print their successful Precourse Self-Assessment score report and course completion certificate and bring it with them to class.
  • Welcome to the American Heart Association’s ACLS Precourse Self-Assessment

    The precourse self-assessment is a prerequisite for the ACLS Course to ensure that all students have the adequate baseline knowledge to enter the course. Use the report you receive at the end of the precourse self-assessment to identify any gaps in knowledge. We encourage you to use all necessary resources to fill those gaps before the classroom portion of the course.
    Once you complete the precourse self-assessment, you will receive a report detailing your results. You will need this report showing a passing score to enter the course.
    • Print the report and give it to your instructor when you arrive for class.
    Here are some key points about this precourse self-assessment:
    • The precourse self-assessment consists of 60 multiple choice questions within the following categories:
      • Rhythm Identification
      • Pharmacology
      • Practical Application
    • This precourse self-assessment should take about 1 to 1½ hours to complete.
    • The precourse self-assessment is intended to be taken in one sitting.
    • You will have unlimited opportunities to complete and pass the precourse self-assessment.
    • A score of 70% or higher is required to pass the precourse self-assessment.
  • After you complete the 60 multiple choice questions, there are 72 more counting the course video slides.
  • This will take 4 hours. You can not fast forward, or skip in any way. You'll watch a video and answer 3 to 4 questions. It will take the full 4 hours plus. Please plan on beginning the steps to complete your course at least 1 month before the expiration date of your ACLS Provider Card.
