2020 Heartcode ACLS Skills Agenda
1 Instructor: 1 to 3 Students Approximate course duration 2 hrs / 2 hrs 25 min / 2 hrs 50 min.
10 Minutes Introductions / Sign in / Facility Services / Course Requirements / Testing
10 Minutes Learning / Testing Station High-Quality BLS
For 3 students, 1 will serve as CPR Coach while 2 rescuers each perform CPR for 2
minutes.
Each participant will take a turn at being the CPR Coach.
10 Minutes BLS Testing: Each student will be tested, one at a time in a relatively private environment. Each student must pass an entire sequence of a 2-rescuer scenario.
20 Minutes Learning Station: Airway Management / Testing
Each student will participate in a respiratory case scenario. Each case will last approx 3 minutes. Instructor will monitor ventilation with a stopwatch Each student: Must have a different case scenario Perform a full assessment Begin ventilation without delay Insert an OPA or an NPA Connect the bag-mask device o oxygen and adjust the flow rate to the appropriate level Give bag-mask ventilation with OPA/NPA for 1 minute Rate (once every 6 seconds) Speed (Squeeze the bag for 1 second) Volume (about half the bag)
10 Minutes Technology Review: Monitor/defibrillator functions buttons, Transcutaneous pacing, synchronized cardioversion, Blood Pressure, PETCO2, Pulse Oximetry, Pad Connections, ECG Connections and lead placement (3, 4 and 5 lead)/ Review Crash Cart contents and drugs)
10 Minutes Learning Station: Vascular Access
25 Min/Case Learning Station: High Performance Teams: Megacode Practice
1 Scenario per person, each student gets a different scenario
Prebriefing shall last 5 minutes (Set expectations, provide a safe, mutually respectful environment, explain rules and realizm for the simulation, review team roles, responsibilities and assignments for each case) Students may use resources such as pocket cards, crash cart cards Provide Case Scenario Information Each scenario should last 10 minutes Each debriefing should last 10 minutes
