Hero Firefighters Use Pet CPR to Save Dog Caught in Utah Apartment Building Fire

A Utah dog is safe and sound thanks to a group of firefighters — and some pet CPR!

On Monday, Sept. 16, first responders from Unified Fire Authority (UFA) responded to an apartment building on fire in Midvale, Utah, where they found a dog in need of urgent, lifesaving first aid, local outlet FOX 13 reported.

According to the outlet, the UFA crews responded to the scene of the apartment fire at around 5:30 a.m. Upon arrival, they saw flames coming out of each of the building’s units.

After the firefighters extinguished the blaze, rescuers determined no building residents were harmed in the fire — at least, no human ones.

While the units were almost entirely vacant, a dog was found unresponsive in a kennel inside one of the apartments, FOX 13 reported.

The canine was removed from the building and taken outside, where UFA crews administered lifesaving pet CPR.

In a Instagram post documenting the critical moment, the UFA included photos of firefighters holding the pup and using a mask to provide the dog with a continuous oxygen flow.

A final photo showed the dog sitting up after the CPR and receiving a pat on the head.

"Not all heroes wear capes sometimes they carry leashes," the UFA wrote on social media. "Today, company 110 had the incredible opportunity to rescue a dog from a fire."

"Moments like these remind us how lucky we are to protect not only our community but also our furry family members," the caption concluded. "Grateful for the chance to save lives, human and animal alike. ?❤️?."

According to FOX 13, fire officials believe the blaze — which caused an estimated $100,000 in damages to the apartment building — was caused by a cooking fire, but the fire is still under investigation.
