This Basic Heart Rhythm Class is a wonderful Prehospital course for paramedics, Telemetry Techs, Registered Nurses who work in the ER or Critical Care Units. It is also a great Pre-ACLS or Pre-PALS course as it covers the basic cardiac rhythms.

This is a great course for those who are new to Heart Rhythms or just need a refresher.

In this course you will learn:

  • Medical terminology related to electrocardiography
  • Anatomy and circulation of the heart and blood vessels
  • Electrical conduction system of the heart
  • Rhythm strip analysis (P, Q, R, S,T waveform interpretation)
  • Normal sinus rhythm, sinus bradycardia, sinus tachycardia, heart blocks, junctional rhythms, ectopics, bundle branch blocks
  • Basic Rhythm interpretation, sinus rhythm, and ventricular rhythms, asystole; example rhythm
  • Recognizing artifacts, troubleshooting, tracing problems
  • Practice rhythms 
  • Cardiac cycle
  • Lead placement
  • General Knowledge of anatomy and physiology
  • Anatomy and circulation of the heart and blood vessels
  • Electrical conduction system of the heart  
  • Lead placement for 3, 4 and 5 lead monitoring systems

This course builds upon the knowledge of the student’s ability to understand and recognize variations in the electrical conduction of the heart as evidenced by changes in the heart rhythm. The course will encompass the recognition and treatment modalities of sinus, atrial, junctional and ventricular rhythms as well as heart block.
Recognition and treatment of electrical conduction problems related to ischemia, injury and
drug/electrolyte imbalances will also be discussed.
